📝 About this event

To hear Aynur's voice is to hear the transformation of all layers of human joy and human suffering into a single sound." This is how star cellist Yo-Yo Ma describes the musical style of the exceptional singer Aynur, who returns to the Philharmonie Essen after her acclaimed debut in May 2022. The world-renowned artist is distinguished by her unique creations, in which she weaves her Kurdish roots with modern Western elements. Over the course of a quarter century, she has established herself as one of the most recognised voices of her generation. Her powerful yet touching voice brings the poetry of Kurdistan to life through jazz and pop arrangements, making a statement against censorship and resistance. For this, she has received the Master of Mediterranean Music Award and the WOMEX Artist Award. Performers: Aynur (vocals) Hayden Chisholm (saxophone) Caner Malkoc (clarinet) Mahan Mirarab (guitar) Chris Jennings (double bass) Franz von Chossy (piano) Patrick Goraguer (drums)
